The Credentials
Harald Bernard Malmgren (1935–2025) was an economist, trade negotiator and Washington adviser. His documented career crossed the Institute for Defense Analyses, the Office of the United States Trade Representative and decades of international consulting. He earned his doctorate at Oxford and entered IDA in 1962. In 1964, he became a senior economic adviser at USTR. He later served as deputy special representative for trade negotiations with ambassadorial rank, then briefly as acting trade representative.
His late testimony opened a second, hidden career inside nuclear weapons and missile defense. Malmgren said he held an unlimited Q clearance and confronted General Curtis LeMay during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He also said Kennedy sent him into the compartment that held recovered material. These claims belong to his testimony. Surviving employment records establish his Washington proximity while challenging his clearance and White House chronology.
His public career already gave the account a substantial carrier. He conducted trade work across the Johnson, Nixon and Ford administrations, then continued consulting after government. He also taught at Cornell, Georgetown and Johns Hopkins SAIS. The final account came through a named official with a documented career. His extraordinary autobiography therefore meets a public record against which its particulars can be tested.
The Disclosure
In August 2024, Malmgren began posting on X about his knowledge of non-human technology:
“60+ years ago I was provided highest level classifications to lead DOD work on nuclear weapons & anti-missile defense. Informally briefed on ‘otherworld technologies’ by CIA’s Richard Bissell.”
Richard Bissell had been the CIA’s deputy director of plans. He was a central figure in the U-2, Area 51 and Bay of Pigs histories. Malmgren said Bissell began meeting him after the missile crisis and told him directly that the otherworldly presence was real. His account joined covert aviation, nuclear testing and non-human technology through a named briefer.
Malmgren further posted that NHI technology had enabled planning for “moon to Mars” travel. His claim placed recovered non-human engineering inside the institutions that produced the American space program.
As his health declined in early 2025, Malmgren agreed to record a final interview from his hospital bed. He spoke for four hours with Jesse Michels of the American Alchemy podcast. His daughter, Dr. Pippa Malmgren, co-hosted the recording. She had served as a Special Assistant to President Bush and a member of the National Economic Council. He died on February 13, 2025; the interview was released in April.
The Testimony
Malmgren’s final testimony named the event, its custodians and his own encounter with the material. He placed it during the 1962 Bluegill nuclear-test sequence in the Pacific. He said the United States brought down a non-human craft with a classified directed-energy weapon. The recovered material entered Atomic Energy Commission custody. He traveled to New Mexico at Kennedy’s request and held part of the object in his own hands. He also said he was later shown video of a surviving occupant.
Malmgren said Robert Sarbacher told him UFO secrecy stood above the hydrogen bomb. Sarbacher had made a similar statement to investigators decades earlier. The older statement establishes that this classified account circulated through another named carrier in the nuclear world. It does not independently establish Malmgren’s Bluegill object, weapon, material or occupant.
In Malmgren’s account, the detonation, arrival, weapon and recovery belong to one event inside the nuclear testing program. The Vertical Breach’s nuclear-contact correspondence receives a named witness from the 1962 Washington apparatus. The decisive question is whether surviving records can recover his route into the compartment.
Inside the 1962 Compartment
Malmgren placed the non-human-material story inside the nuclear clearance system and Kennedy’s 1962 crisis circle. In his telling, the AEC held the object and Los Alamos supplied the encounter site. Bissell carried the briefing, while Kennedy connected the witness to the material. A young economist entered Washington through IDA as the nuclear state confronted terrestrial annihilation and an intelligence outside its control.
The larger institutional history requires its own records. Malmgren’s account alone cannot establish that the AEC held the whole archive or that the Air Force served only as a decoy. It cannot establish that the Navy inherited the disclosure current or that a later operation selected the letter Q as a signal. A hidden-program motive for Kennedy’s murder also requires a separate record. Malmgren’s local claim already joins the nuclear threshold and the non-human encounter: some of the same people managed both in the same year.
The Family Transmission
Pippa Malmgren, herself a White House adviser, helped her father bring the account into public view. As cancer limited his mobility, she encouraged him to join Twitter in 2018. She co-hosted the final interview and wrote his memorial:
“We’ve been arrogant to believe that we are alone in the world. What happens as people wake up to intelligence(s) that exceed our own and operate in ways that our caged minds cannot fully comprehend?”
The dying witness placed the account in his daughter’s custody before his own carrier failed. The handoff belongs to the record, whatever later recovery establishes about the events he described. After the father’s death, the daughter carries the disclosure forward. The account survives the change of container because someone accepted responsibility for carrying its signal.
